LONG-TERM COMMITMENT

LASVP’s investment model takes a long-term perspective. Building the capacity, or operating strength, of nonprofits requires “patient capital.”  Therefore, our relationships with investees typically span 3-4 years. We also concentrate our resources by working with only two to three investees at a time. Our financial investments are grants: we do not seek a financial return.
As engaged, social investors, we ask:

What results (outcomes) are we seeking?
What is the likelihood that those results will be achieved?
Is this the best possible use of the money?
How can we help ensure success?

INVESTMENT FOCUS AREAS

LASVP has focused on a variety of issue areas, chosen based on community needs and our Partners’ interests.

We have been supporting charter schools since 2005. As we talked to experts in the field of public education, it became clear that successful charter schools offer an immediate solution for today’s students. Education investees have included KIPP LA Schools and current investee Synergy Academies

In 2007, we added the environment as another investment focus area.  Our Partners feel motivated to "think globally and act locally" by working with our investees to grow, evolve and increase their impact in Los Angeles and beyond.  Environmental investees have included Tree People and Healthy Child Healthy World

In 2011, we selected an investee through our Social Innovation Fast Pitch program.  L.A. Diaper Drive addresses the issue of poverty in Los Angeles by providing diapers to families in need and incentivizing attendance in life-improving classes that help families break the cycle of poverty.

Please note that we do not have the resources to respond to every request that we receive.  We do not accept unsolicited grant proposals, but will accept a letter of interest from nonprofits who meet the criteria outlined for a specific grant cycle. If you are a non-profit organization and would like to be considered for our future grant cycles, please submit complete contact information on the Contact Us page of this website and tell us a little about your organization.  We will contact you at the beginning of a grant cycle if your organization meets our investment criteria.
