2009 Social Innovation Fast Pitch Winners Announced!

Event Draws 400 Attendees

Los Angeles, CA

Last night Los Angeles Social Venture Partners (LASVP), the Social Enterprise Institute (SEI) and the University of Southern California (USC) hosted the second annual Social Innovation Fast Pitch and Showcase. The goal of the event was to identify, reward, and celebrate innovative nonprofits in the Greater Los Angeles area that demonstrate significant potential for impact and social problem-solving.

10 nonprofits made 3-minute pitches to a standing-room only audience of approximately 400, and to a panel of judges.  Presenters were evaluated on two criteria: 1) the social impact and innovative approach of their model, and 2) their "pitch", i.e., their delivery as a presenter, ability to engage the audience, and the clarity of their message about how people could help them.

The host organizations wish to congratulate the award winners:

Best Overall Presentation ($10,000):  Girls and Gangs

Award for Impact & Innovation ($5,000): The Posse Foundation

Award for Pitch ($5,000): A Window Between Worlds

Coaches' Award ($2,500): City Hall Fellows

LASVP, SEI and USC also congratulate ALL the presenters on the outstanding job they did in preparing their pitches for the event and presenting last night! For a full list of the 10 presenters and other program participants, see the program website, http://www.socialinnovationpitch.org.

If you are interested in sponsoring, supporting or being involved in next year's event, please contact LASVP at info @ lasvp.org or 310.281.7509.

Special thanks to this year's sponsors: The Goldhirsh Foundation, California Community Foundation, Bank of America Merrill Lynch, The Nicholas Endowment, Fidelity Charitable Services, Harris myCFO, and many individual donors.  In addition, we thank First 5 LA for their recruiting, outreach, and promotional efforts in support of this year's program and social enterprise programming countywide.
Finally, we thank the more than 40 dedicated individuals who volunteered their time and talent to serve as coaches and mentors to the nonprofits.  The value you created was tremendous and lasting!
