Inner City Education Foundation (Former Investee)
ICEF is a non-profit operator of charter schools in South Los Angeles that provides a rigorous college preparatory education to its students, and is working to significantly increase the number of college graduates in the community. ICEF’s programs are built around a culture of high expectations and innovative educational approaches, including the “Accelerated Schools” model. At the core, the education model “accelerates” the learning of disadvantaged students by employing the same teaching methods and curriculum used with gifted and talented students at the nation’s best college preparatory schools.
ICEF's current programs include three charter schools, an after school program, and a summer program. The three charter schools -- View Park Accelerated Charter Elementary, Middle and High Schools – currently serve nearly 900 students in grades K-11, who are 99% African-American.
ICEF is well-known throughout California for having the highest-performing charter schools serving urban students. All three schools ranked in the top decile of similar schools statewide, based on 2004-2005 Academic Performance Index (API) scores. ICEF is pursuing an aggressive growth plan to open 20 new schools over the next 10 years. LASVP is assisting with marketing efforts, college/university outreach, and program development for job skills program.
